I love Christmas time and all of the lights, cheer, and decorations. The lights remind me of the scripture, “Matthew 5:14-16 which reads: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
As Christmas comes into full swing may our lights shine as the Christmas lights do. May our hearts burn with the joy of the season, and may we share with others what this joy is. This gift, that brings us joy, cannot be bought in a store nor tied with a bow. While material things are wonderful and fun to gift and receive, they are not the source of our joy. The source of our joy is found much deeper within. His name is Jesus. The great thing about this gift is that it is not for just us, but for all to receive.
How can your light shine? Share the good news. Share about our living God. Share God’s love. There are many ways that you can let your light shine. Sometimes it is a good deed, a kind word, offering prayer, visiting the sick, sharing what you have, meeting a need. Other times it is walking the journey with someone, checking in on someone, serving in some way. Each person shines in a different way.
Our challenge today is to be the city set on the hill, be light, let your light shine from within and when your light shines, there is no way that it can be hidden.
